Hongkong, 5th July, 1907.
Sir,
In reply to your letter No. 3803 of the 3rd instant inquiring into a statement made by Fr. Reidle, that the sum of $1,900 deposited with the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank was received from me and to the circumstances which led to this transaction, I have the honour to inform you that I handed Mr. Reidle $2,000 some date at the end of August, 1905. This amount was repayment on a loan.
I presume this is what he refers to?
I am etc.,
(sgd.) E. M. Hazeland,
The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary.
